Crochet a Fun Textured Hexagon - Free Pattern

How to Crochet a Textured Hexagon Motif – Pattern

Hi guys! Let’s crochet a textured hexagon together. This is a fun way to use up some scrap yarn and learn some new stitches on a smaller scale.

You can use these hexagons to make blankets, pillows, wall hangings, accessories, and more! If you use cotton yarn, you can turn these hexagons into coasters.

Let’s get started!

Materials:

Yarn:

One of the great things about this crochet textured hexagon is that it’s versatile. This means that you can use any hook size and yarn type/weight, which makes it a great stash buster project.

However, for those wondering what yarn I used, here is my colour choice:

  • Colour: Peach Part-ay
  • This is a self-striping yarn that alternates between purple, fuschia, salmon, and light pink.

Blocking your Hexagons:

Blocking your work is optional, but it can make a big difference in the overall appearance of your hexagons. Blocking helps the stitches relax and lie flat to create straight, crisp edges.

Here is a picture of unblocked vs. blocked hexagons. What a difference!

To block your hexagon:

  • Lay it on a blocking or foam mat.
  • Place a pin in all 6 corner ch-1 sps, and into the center of the MR.
  • Steam or spray the hexagon with water.
  • Gently press the steam/water into the hexagon with your hands.
  • Let the hexagon dry completely and unpin it!

Joining Multiple Crochet Hexagons Together:

If you choose to make more than one textured hexagon, then you’ll need to join them together. There are 3 ways to join these crochet textured hexagons:

  1. Make a bunch of hexagons and sew them together using the whip stitch or mattress stitch.
  2. Make a bunch of hexagons and join them together using a join-as-you-go method. Here is a great tutorial by Nautikrall Crochet.
  3. Make 1 hexagon and use a join-as-you-go method to join each additional hexagon as you crochet. Here is a great tutorial by Hooked by Robin.
