The original pattern for the Follow Your Heart Potholder measures 8″ x 8″. If you’d like to make a smaller or larger version of the original pattern, then follow the customization instructions below.
Width:
- To make your potholder smaller, chain 33 – (a multiple of 3). Each ch 3 subtracts 2” from the width of your potholder and creates one less column of puff stitch hearts.
- To make your potholder larger, chain 33 + (a multiple of 3). Each additional ch 3 adds 2” to the width of your potholder and creates another column of puff stitch hearts.
Follow the adjusted instructions below:
Rnd 1: No adjustments.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sk first marked hdc, hdc in next 3 sts, 2 PS in next st, [sk 1 st, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 PS in next st] 3 (+ or – each ch 3 multiple) times. (Ex. If you chained 36, repeat this 4 times, for a ch 30, repeat this 2 times). Sk 1 st, hdc in remaining sts. Hdc in skipped st. Sl st to join.
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sk first marked hdc, hdc in next 3 sts, 2 PS in PuffSp, [sk 2 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 PS in PuffSp] 3 (+ or – each ch 3 multiple) times. (Ex. If you chained 36, repeat this 4 times, for a ch 30, repeat this 2 times). Sk 2 sts, hdc in remaining sts. Hdc in skipped st. Sl st to join.
Rnd 4: Ch 2, sk first marked hdc, hdc in next 3 sts, 2 PS in PuffSp, [sk 2 sts, hdc in next 5 sts, 2 PS in PuffSp] 3 (+ or – each ch 3 multiple) times. (Ex. If you chained 36, repeat this 4 times, for a ch 30, repeat this 2 times). Sk 2 sts, hdc in next 3 sts. Dc in remaining sts. Hdc in skipped st. Sl st to join.
Length:
To make your potholder longer or shorter, follow the adjusted instructions for Rnds 1 – 4 above. For Rnds 5 and on, alternate between 4 rnds of Rnd 3, followed by 1 rnd of Rnd 4. You can end on any rnd when satisfied with the length of your potholder.
