Crochet Bobble Pillow Pattern

The Spring Forward Bobble Pillow – Paid Crochet Pattern

Hi guys! Introducing the Spring Forward Crochet Pillow – a fun bobble striped pillow.

To get you in the mood for Spring, I designed the Spring Forward Pillow, which features bobbles and light purple yarn. Nothing screams, “Spring!”, quite like crochet bobbles!

This pattern looks complicated with all of the texture, but it is a lot easier than you think. Once you get the hang of the pattern repeat, this pillow is so much fun to make.

Yarn Choice & Alternatives:

I designed this crochet bobble pillow using Brava Sport Weight 2 yarn from WeCrochet/Knit Picks. This pillow was featured in a Spring Style Blog Hop, so the yarn for this project was generously donated by WeCrochet – thank you.

Story Time:

When I first placed my order with WeCrochet, I chose Brava Sport in the colours Seraphim and White because I thought the colours fit my brand and also fit into the “Spring” category. However, in typical Dayna fashion, I started overthinking my colour choice, and I worried that the colours were not “Spring-y” enough. So I placed a second order (this time with my own money), for Brava Sport in the colours, Blush, Seashell, Caution, Orange, Avocado, Clarity, and Dove Heather. You can see these yarns in the pictures below.

Yarn Review:

Brava Sport is a great yarn. It’s fairly soft, you get a good bang for your buck (273 yards for $3.49 USD), and it has great stitch definition. I am a fan! However, I am not in love with the entire colour palette. Buying yarn online is tricky because colours vary on different screens, so it’s not always easy to find a colour you love. I haven’t seen all of the colours in person (one day, I will save up enough money to test one of each), but until then, I can speak on the ones I have used.

In the third picture, here are the colours in order of appearance from top left to right: Orange, Caution, Clarity, Seashell, Blush. (Bottom left to right): Avocado, Dove Heather. (On Top/ Second Stacked Row): White, Seraphim.

Seraphim: This is a purple mauve colour with brown undertones, that adds a subtle pop of colour to your project. I would group this colour in the neutral category. Opinion: I am a fan of this colourway!

White: This is a bright white that gives off a cool undertone. if you are looking for a true white, without any hints of yellow, cream, or pink, this is for you! Opinion: I am a fan of this colourway!

Clarity: This is a pale, light blue that almost looks white in some lighting. This colour is great for creating contrast in your project, and it’s so pretty. Opinion: I am a fan of this colourway!

Dove Heather: This is a light grey colour that is “heathered” to create dimension in the yarn. The heathered look has light bits of whitish grey mixed in with darker shades of grey. This is a nice light grey yarn that you can use as a neutral colour in any project. Opinion: I am a fan of this colourway!

Avocado: If you know me, you know that I love green. This colour is not for everyone, but it’s a darker version of the “Green Apple” colour in the “Yarn Bee Soft and Sleek” line. Another way to describe it is a 70’s green, or a puke green. Unpopular Opinion: I am a fan of this colourway!

Blush: This is a cotton candy style pink that is concentrated in colour. It’s not a soft or neutral pop of colour; it’s bold. Opinion: I don’t like this colourway!

Seashell: This is a neon peach colour that is very bright and bold. If you are a fan of neon or bright pops of colours, I think you’ll love this yarn. It has grown on me a bit, but it’s still too much for my eyes haha. Opinion: I don’t like this colourway!

Caution: Caution is another bold, neon light yellow/orange colour. It reminds me of an intense sunset. If you love yellows and oranges that border on neon, you’ll love this colour. Opinion: I don’t like this colourway!

Orange: This is a bold, dark and deep neon orange colour. It reminds me of the colour of the Cheetos and Cheese Ball seasoning. Opinion: I don’t like this colourway!

Fairytale (Pictured in the “Get Creative with Colour” Section: This is a deep purple colour with pink undertones. It’s warm and bright, and will add a pop of colour to any project. It’s a pretty yarn if you love rich colour! Opinion: I am a fan of this colourway!

Alternative Yarn Options:

Knit Pick’s Brava Sport Yarn is a Weight 2 yarn, but it is more similar to a DK Weight 3 yarn. You can use any thick weight 2 (Sport), regular weight 3 (DK), or thin weight 4 (aran/worsted), as long as it meets the gauge. Please check your gauge before crocheting your pillow.

Get Creative with Colour:

When I was making this crochet bobble pillow for the second time – to double check the instructions and the sizing – I ran out of the Seraphim colourway, so I started experimenting with other colours that I had one hand. Here is the fun pillow that came from this experiment. It reminds me of the Pop Art Movement that Andy Warhol started. I kind of love how quirky and weird it is; what do you think?

Don’t be afraid to try different colours and placements. You can create some amazing things with colour blocking! This pillow was done using Brava Sport Yarn in the colours, Seraphim, Clarity, Fairytale, and Seashell.

I can’t wait to see how you take this pattern and make it your own!

    1. Hi Tammy, great question! I think it was just the way I was holding the yarn to get the picture, but it should be a yarn over as instructed. Thank you for catching this!

    1. Hi Debbie, I just tried it, and it seems to be working. Try clicking the “Download” button, or below it, “Ravelry Here”. It should pop up, but let me know if it doesn’t.

  1. I am trying to reach the corporate office for this yarn. Craftsmart. I just spent 2 days unraveling tons of tangles
I would like for the company to do something about this. I would appreciate a reply back.
I would not suggest anyone use this yarn till they fix the problem!!’n

    1. Hi Theresa,

I am so sorry that you had a bad experience with Craft Smart. I have been able to use it without it tangling, but I understand that it does happen, and it so frustrating! I hope you can get a reply from the company, and a refund.
