Honest Take and Review of Loops and Threads Impeccable Value Yarn
This post is not sponsored, and all opinions are my own.

A bit about Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn:

  • Worsted/Aran Weight Medium 4 yarn
  • 100% acrylic yarn
  • $4.99 USD or $6.99 CAD per skein
  • 285 yds/ 260 m in each skein
  • 67 Colours Available
  • Exclusive Michaels brand that is only available at Michaels

A Type of Value Yarn

Loops and Threads Impeccable yarn is an economy or value yarn, which means that it’s budget friendly.

For this reason, this is an ideal yarn for fiber artists on a budget, or beginner level crocheters and knitters because it’s a cheap acrylic yarn that you can practice on, before venturing out to more expensive yarns.

Yarn prices can add up quickly, so if you love to crochet, and do it often, economy yarn is a good option to have.

Accessibility: Where Can I Buy this Yarn?

Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn is an exclusive brand to Michaels, so it’s only sold in Michaels stores. Since Michaels is based in both the United States and Canada, this yarn is only accessible to North American crocheters. Michaels does not currently offer international shipping.

If you live in the US or Canada, then you can purchase this yarn in store or online.

Is this Yarn a Good Bang for your Buck?

Each skein of Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn contains 285 yards or 260 meters of yarn and is regularly priced at $4.99 USD /$6.99 CAD.

To me, the price is a bit inflated for the quality and quantity of yarn that you are getting. For a $5/$7 skein of yarn, I would expect it to either have more yardage (somewhere in the 300’s), or have a higher quality in softness, material, durability, or consistency between colours.

However, this is a decent price for yarn – it’s not a bargain level price, but it’s also not the most expensive value yarn on the market.

One of the nice things about Michaels is that they offer frequent sales, and you can use coupons on regularly priced items. So, take advantage of these discounts when buying this yarn to get the best bang for your buck.

Softness

This yarn is not overly soft, and I would score it a 5/10.

It feels like a classic acrylic yarn. It will not rub your finger raw while you crochet with it, but it also doesn’t feel like a fluffy, plush cloud that you’d like to wrap yourself in.

Acrylic yarn tends to get softer over time as the fibers break down in the wash or from everyday use, so I have hope that this yarn (and my blanket) will get softer.

Consistency in Thickness between the Colours

One of the things I noticed when crocheting with this yarn was the inconsistency in thickness/weight between the colours.

I used 7 different colours – Claret, Pumpkin, Lemon, Guacamole, Aqua, Eggplant, and Classic Gray. Some of the colours were thick – Lemon and Guacamole, some were slightly thinner – Claret, Eggplant and Classic Gray, and one was extremely thin – Aqua.

To prove this, I tested each of the colours wraps per inch (WPI). Wraps per inch measures the thickness of a yarn and helps you compare. To do this, wrap your colour around a ruler to see how many times you can wrap the yarn within 1”. I wrapped my yarn between the 1 and 2 inch mark. As you can see, some of the yarns had different WPIs:

  • Claret: 12 WPI
  • Pumpkin: 11 WPI
  • Lemon: 11 WPI
  • Guacamole: 10 WPI
  • Aqua: 12 WPI
  • Egg Plant: 12 WPI
  • Classic Gray: 12 WPI

This is frustrating because sometimes you choose multiple colours within the same line of yarn because you want to ensure that the weight of the yarn is consistent for your project. When the weights within the same line are different, it can affect your gauge, sizing, and make your project look a little wonky.

Thankfully, it didn’t make a huge difference to the overall look of my blanket, but I can see and feel the difference, as I’m sure other crocheters would.

An Easy Fix: I would recommend shopping for the yarn in person (for your first purchase), so you can feel each skein and see the difference between colours.

Colour Options!

This is a popular brand of yarn for Michaels, so they offer it in 67 colours. This is great because it offers fiber artists more variety and options for their projects. There is a good selection of neutrals, bright and muted colours, so you can find something that suits you.

Stitch Definition

Stitch definition refers to how the stitches look and stand out when working with a yarn.

Some yarns have great stitch definition, which means that they work well for projects that have a lot of different stitches and textures. Yarns that don’t have good stitch definition work best for simpler stitch patterns where the focus is more on the yarn/colours than the texture.

Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn has decent stitch definition. I would score it a 6.5/10.

The yarn is not spun too tightly, so you can see the texture of the stitches more than the texture of the yarn, creating a better stitch definition. If you’re looking for a yarn for textured patterns where the stitches (not the yarn) take center stage, then you can’t go wrong with this yarn.

How Easy it to Frog with this Yarn?

If you make a mistake, then you need to unravel (or frog – rip it, rip it) your work to start again. This yarn does not stick to itself, which means that you can unravel it with ease without damaging the yarn. Definitely a positive!

How Hard is it to Find the Yarn Tails?

Every skein of yarn comes with 2 tails – one in the center of the skein, and one tucked into the top. For Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn, it’s easy to find the outside strand (pictured below), but extremely hard to find the center tail without creating a yarn barf mess.

Even though pulling from the outside of the skein is best, it creates a little extra work for yourself because the skein moves around when you pull.

A way to avoid the mess and still pull from the center is to use a yarn winder to wind the yarn into cakes. Cakes provide easy access to the center strand, so you can crochet with ease.

Does this Yarn Pill?

Have you ever noticed that some yarn is fuzzier than others? Or that over time little balls of colour and yarn form on the surface of your crochet piece when you wash it or use it regularly? This is called pilling.

The best way to tell if the yarn pills is by throwing it in the wash to see if the little pills/circles form on top of your stitches. So far, this yarn has not pilled, but there are noticeable fluffy strands that surround the main strand.

What Projects Would Work Well with This Yarn?

Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn is an acrylic yarn, so you can use it to crochet pretty much anything. I think it would be great for making blankets (very budget-friendly), Amigurimi, pillows, wall hangings, hats, scarves, shawls, mittens, and even sweaters.

Here are a few projects to give you ideas:

I hope this review helps you make an informed decision on whether or not this yarn is for you. If you love economy yarn, then Loops and Threads Impeccable Yarn is worth a try.

Have an amazing day and happy crocheting!

Love, Dayna
