2024 Potholders Galore Crochet Along: Everything you need to know

Everything you Need to Know: 2024 Potholder Crochet-Along

Hi guys! I’m so excited to announce our third annual Potholders Galore Crochet-Along. We are back for another year of crochet potholder fun, and that is because of you – thank you all so much for your interest, participation, and support!

This year’s CAL (Crochet-Along) is made up of 13 crochet potholder patterns. Each potholder has a different design, but they are all crocheted the same way: in the round. This means that the potholders will be crocheted in ONE piece, they’ll be double sided and double thick, and there won’t be any sewing involved – except for weaving in your ends at the end of the project.

I know that not everyone is comfortable or has experience crocheting in the round, so the first two potholder patterns will help us learn the basics. After that, each new pattern will build upon these basic skills, so that by the end of this CAL, you’ll be a pro at crocheting in the round!

If this sounds like fun to you, please keep reading to learn more about the crochet along!

What is a Crochet Along (CAL)?

A crochet-along (a.k.a. a CAL) is an online event where crocheters come together to make the same set of patterns within a set period of time. The patterns are released in parts, and pattern support is provided.

How does the Potholders Galore Crochet-Along work?

  • The Potholders Galore Crochet Along starts on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, and ends Wednesday, December 11, 2024 (please see schedule below for pattern release days).
  • Each crochet potholder will be available as a complete video tutorial on Youtube, a free written pattern on the blog with ads, and an ad-free printable PDF on Ravelry.

  • This is a relaxed CAL, so you can join in at any time, skip some weeks, and be selective about which crochet potholders you make.

Pattern Release Dates:

This year’s CAL runs from July 10 – December 11, with a new potholder being released every second Wednesday.

The only exception to the “every two week” schedule is the first two potholders, which will be released one week apart. These two potholders are considered a “prequel” to the CAL because they will help us learn the basics, before we build upon these skills in the crochet-along.

Materials for the Crochet Along:

Yarn Choice:

For my potholders, I used I Love this Cotton! Yarn in solids and prints, from Hobby Lobby. This yarn is 100% cotton, soft, durable, and the colours are beautiful. It is regularly priced at $3.99, but goes on sale every other week for $2.79 (30% off).

Alternative Yarn Options:

Here are a few worsted weight (4) cotton yarn alternatives:

Important Yarn Note:

100% cotton or wool yarn is recommended for potholders because they will not melt or burn under extreme heat. Any other type of fabric or cotton blend will not work for potholders.
