Front Post Double Crochet Stitch Tutorial (Fpdc):
The front post double crochet is worked AROUND a stitch, instead of through the front and back loops of a stitch.
- YO and insert hook behind the indicated st. (Pictures 1 & 2)
- YO and draw up a loop – you should have 3 loops on the hook. (Pictures 3 & 4)
- [YO and pull through 2 loops] 2 times. (Pictures 4, 5 & 6)

Video Tutorial:
Pattern:
- Do not turn at the end of each rnd.
- The beginning ch of each rnd does not count as a st.
- Mark the first st of each new rnd with a stitch marker, so you know where the new rnd starts and ends.
- If you find that you are gaining an extra st each rnd, then mark the last st of each rnd with a stitch marker to fix this.
- After Rnd 2, every fpdc is worked around a dc from the previous rnd; and every dc is worked into a fpdc from the previous rnd.
- The pattern is written with instructions for the 2 sizes: 7″ x 7″ and 8″ x 8″. Ex. Ch 31 (35), means ch 31 for Size #1, and ch 35 for Size #2.
With Colour A, ch 31 (35).
Rnd 1:
- Dc in third ch from hook – mark with a stitch marker.
- Dc in each ch across until 1 ch remains.
- 3 dc in the last ch.
- Rotate your work 180 degrees clockwise, so you are working along the bottom of the chain.
- Sk last ch with 3 dc. Dc in next ch and in each ch across until 1 ch remains.
- 2 dc in last ch.
- Sl st into the first st of the rnd to join. Do not turn.
Stitch Count: 60(68) dc

Rnd 2:
- Ch 2, dc in first st – mark with a stitch marker.
- [Fpdc around next st, dc in next st] around. The last st should be a fpdc.
- Sl st in first st of the rnd to join. Do not turn.
Stitch Count: 30(34) dc, 30(34) fpdc

Rnd 3:
- Ch 2, fpdc around first dc – mark with a stitch marker.
- [Dc in next fpdc, fpdc around next dc] around. The last st should be a dc.
- Sl st in first st of the rnd to join. Do not turn.
Stitch Count: 30(34) dc, 30(34) fpdc

Rnd 4:
- Ch 2, dc in first fpdc – mark with a stitch marker.
- [Fpdc around next dc, dc in next fpdc] around. The last st should be a fpdc.
- Sl st in first st of the rnd to join. Do not turn.
Stitch Count: 30(34) dc, 30(34) fpdc

Size #1:
Rnds 5 – 16: Repeat Rnds 3 – 4. Rnd 16 is a Rnd 4 repeat.
Size #2:
Rnds 5 – 19: Repeat Rnds 3 – 4. Rnd 19 is a Rnd 3 repeat.
Custom Size:
Rnd 5 and on: Repeat Rnds 3 – 4 until satisfied with the length of the potholder.
Do not fasten off, as you will need this yarn for closing the top of the potholder. Weave in all ends (except for the current yarn strand).
Crocheting the Potholder Closed:
- Lay the potholder flat, making sure the front side of the potholder is facing you, and line up the front and back stitches.
- Ch 1, insert hook into first st on the front, and the matching st on the back of the potholder, and make a sc.
- Sc in each st across, inserting the hook into the matching front and back st to join. Do not fasten off.
- Stitch Count: 30 (34) sl st

Adding a Ch-Circle:
- After making the final sc, ch 13 (Picture 1).
- Insert hook into front loop and first vertical bar of last sc (going on a diagonal). Make a sl st to close the ch-circle. (Picture 2 & 3)
- Fasten off, leave a tail, and weave in the last end (Picture 4, 5, 6, 7).
